Case Study: Schindler House
An architectural masterpiece located in West Hollywood
One of my favorite parts of Los Angeles are the case study houses peppered throughout the city. They are protected and preserved to be appreciated, inspire and educate. The Schindler House is a must see.
Located in West Hollywood, nestled between condos and new-builds lives this masterpiece. Designed over a two month period in 1921 by Rudolph Schindler and his wife Pauline. Poured concrete with skinny windows, a copper fireplace and wood details were extremely modern at the time.
The structure was designed to house two separate couples with communal space. The impact of the modern elements aided in launching Souther California modernism. Preserved for over 100 years, the space is open for tours and special art exhibits.
One of my favorite portrait artist, Alex Katz, had an opening in 2023. Seeing his art in this space is one of my favorite memories. The house is open for tours for all architectural enthusiast alike.
